Earliest mention in the records
The first mention of the surname WEBB in the Merriott Parish Registers was on 22 July 1655, with the marriage of a Jane WEBB, widow, of Merriott to a John MITCHELL. After this there was a large gap until another marriage on 7 July 1696 of an Elizabeth WEBB to John EASON.
Into the 18th century, the first WEBB families started to register baptisms for their children:

William Simeon WEBB was born in Hinton St George. He is listed in the 1841 & 1851 census of Merriott, however, his wife Ann Tully Rousell WEBB is listed alone in the Merriott censuses of 1871, 1881 and 1891. She was buried in Merriott in 1903. William Simeon’s father, also William Simeon WEBB, was the publican of the Bell Inn in Merriott in 1841; he was listed as a Publican in the 1851 census of Misterton, Somerset, where he died in 1858.
