The Denmead/Dinmead Family of Merriott

Earliest Mentions – the 17th Century

The Denmead/Dinmead family are found in the earliest Merriott records – first mention is a baptism in 1648, of a child (William) of Phillip & Mary Denmead.   The DINMEAD and DENMEAD names are used interchangeably on this page.

NOTE:  A Mary Dinmead was buried 12 December 1799, and a Thomas Dinmead married a Mary Wills on 9 June 1802.  I have concluded that the Mary buried in 1799 was Thomas’ first wife and that he remarried in 1802, again to a Mary, just to add confusion for us.   The problem with this is that there are a couple of overlapping baptisms to Thomas & Mary Dinmead
(see below) in 1805/6 and in 1812.  Any suggestions considered!  Of course, this is Merriott, so there is another Thomas & Mary Dinmead baptising children in the 1830s.   This is possibly Thomas, son of Thomas, and another Mary, surname unknown.
