Stuckeys from Seavington to Queensland, Australia (not yet connected to Merriott Stuckeys)
Earliest mention in the Merriott Records
The first mention of the surname STUCKEY was the baptismal entry:
21 January 1652: A man child, borne & named John, of William? (difficult to read) Stuckey.
The following year (13 March 1653) a William Stuckey was buried, and on 10 April 1690 a Grace Stuckey was buried.
These are the only Stuckeys in the 17th century parish records for Merriott.
The 18th Century
The surname Stuckey doesn’t get another mention until 100 years later. Presumably this was then a new family who moved to Merriott from elsewhere, possibly Kingsbury Episcopi.
On 25 December 1792 Henry Stuckey married Mary Trask. Henry was noted as a Pauper in 1794. Their children were baptised as follows:
1 June 1794 George
6 March 1796 Amelia
9 April 1798 George
15 May 1809 Joseph
There was only one Burial:
22 August 1794 George Stuckey

Stuckeys from Seavington to Queensland, Australia
These folk have not been connected to Merriott Stuckeys, but by co-incidence I have them in my own ancestry (as opposed to my husband’s)
A family of Stuckeys arrived in Brisbane as assisted immigrants on the Mary Pleasants, 9 Aug 1857 Isaac 43, Eunice 42, Jacob 23, Emma 22, Prudence 18, Elizabeth 14, Joseph 11, Henry 10 and Isaac 1.
Isaac, senior, was baptised in 1811 at Seavington St Michael, Somerset. Eunice, nee Prior, married him on January 31, 1831, at Seavington St Michael. Jacob, aged 23 in the passenger list, was married to Emma, 22 (nee Phelps), and Isaac, aged 1, was their son. The other children listed were sons & daughters of Isaac & Eunice.
The following table shows each child of Isaac & Eunice & their spouses & offspring.
