William (1834-1913) & Hannah (1838- 1923) (nee Sweet) OSBORNE

William Osborne emigrated to New South Wales, arriving at Sydney 23 July 1857 by the ship “Alfred” with his wife, Hannah Sweet, herself an Osborne descendant.   A cousin, Joseph Osborne (1827 – 1898) was also on board with his wife Mary Ann Lawrence.  In 1858 William’s uncle, aunt & cousins arrived as assisted immigrants – Luke & Sarah (nee Osborne) Lawrence.  [See: Lawrence to Australia]

Joseph (1827 – 1898) & Mary Ann (nee Lawrence) Osborne

Joseph (aka Henry Joseph) Osborne was baptised in Merriott on 13th May 1827, the son of Joseph Osborne & Sarah Gill.  He married Mary Ann Lawrence in Merriott in 1854.  Mary Ann was the daughter of Charles Lawrence & Mary Geep, and had been baptised in Merriott in 1832. The couple emigrated to New South Wales in 1857 on board the Alfred, along with
William & Hannah Osborne mentioned above.  Henry, born about 1868, son of this couple, returned to Merriott where he is noted in the 1890 census.

Samuel (1834 – 1864) & Susan (nee Lawrence) Osborne

Samuel Osborne & Susan Lawrence married in 1856 on Guernsey in the Channel Islands,  returned to Merriott in time to baptise their son Samuel on 11 October  1857, and then emigrated to New South Wales in 1858.  This Samuel Osborne tragically drowned in the Williams River in 1864 at a little place called Seaham, just upstream from Raymond Terrace.
