Pattemore records pre-dating those found in Merriott
Or: some hints as to where the Pattemores might have lived before arriving in Merriott.
Information has come to light about the existence of Pattemores (spelt Padimore/Paddimore/Padamore) living at Haselbury Plucknett earlier than 1689, when the family first were mentioned in the Merriott Parish Registers. These are taken from the Parish Registers for Haselbury, transcribed by Diane Ellisor (thank you Diane!) I would like to speculate that the Aaron Padimore buried in 1679 was either a father or grandfather to the Aaron Pattemore who first appeared in Merriott registers in 1689.
Burial 7 October 1679 Padimore Aaron Buryed according to act under hand and seals of Jane Padamore & Elizabeth Smith. Signed Wm Helyar Esq
Burial 26 February 1681 Padimore John
Burial 16 March 1689 Padimore Elizabeth
Burial 16 January 1687 Padimore Matthew
Burial 16 March 1689 Padimore Elizabeth
Burial 2? October 1690 Padimore Mary Daughter of Christian Padimore
Burial 27 September 1710 Padamour Sarah
Burial 16 December 1716 Padamore Lydia
Burial 20 August 1730 Paddimore Sarah
And from the General Register:
Extraordinary Payments 1716 Paddimore Sarah For attending Margaret Robbins the night she died and for wood 0.0.8
Extraordinary Payments 1716 Paddimore Sarah For attending Mary Robbins the night she died and for wood 0.0.8
Burial in Wool 7 October 1679 Padimore Aaron
Burial in Woolen 26 February 1682 Paddimore John
Diane notes that the surname makes no further appearances in the Parish Registers for Haselbury Plucknett after 1730. Presumably the family in Haselbury died out; however the new family tree established in Merriott from 1689 certainly flourished!
